sudo rm /var/cache/debconf/*.dat
sudo dpkg-reconfigure debconf

Using Ubuntu 12.0.4 LTS I'm facing this issue for some days now. Since
I'm working remotely some installation tends to freeze not reacting on
Ctrl+C, Ctrl+D or anything like that. So I have to drop the connection

I just added myself as "having this issue" but the more I look at it the
more I believe this is a filesystem issue. Both my /var/lib/dpkg and
/var/cache/debconf directories look unhealthy (files appear to be
truncated, corrupted, etc.)
This is on a laptop system running on a SSD ex4 with no journa

I still see this problem on my pc, on a fresh new Kubuntu Feisty setup.
I.e., I've installed some new packages with no troubles. The error message
appears when (try) updating via adept.
