Xubuntu 14.04 live DVD does not boot
To manage notifica
using nomodeset during the initial install fixed the issue. After
xubuntu is installed and all drivers are updated (using nvidia 331.67
for the GeForce and the regular X driver from xorg edgers for the Intel)
I can remove the nomodeset and everything works fine

Should also add: it goes blank before I ever get to see the dialog with
the "try Ubuntu" and "Install" buttons. it goes dead before anything
actually gets installed anywhere.

the laptop is a HP dv6-7014nr.
I should add that I removed the original broadcom wireless card and replaced
with a centrino based card.
