I typed "apt-get install -f", but if I open the Software Updater it says
me the it's up to date, even if the upgrade to 14.04 has not been
completed.

Ok, actually issuing "apt-get install -f" did the magic. Afterwards I
could finish the upgrade process; now everything seems fine. Obviously
this thread can be closed.
