I was also affected by this recently on 8.04. I ended up creating a 1x1
image in the color I desired. Not very intuitive.

Just my point! There is no selection as there is in Feisty. Thus
I cannot see the color.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. If you want set a color background you should select the
"No Wallpaper", how are you planning to see the color if you have a
background on top of it?. however you can try is install the gnome-
background package, in
