I'm the original poster, up to date on Feisty on the same HW as
originally noted. After continuously updating, I have noticed that this
bug is MUCH reduced now (using Kmail Version 1.9.6) - the laptop has
been up for 5 days (and suspended/woken multiple times a day with s2ram)
under heavy kmail us
Bug has been fixed after todays update. Kmail's usable now. Confirming fix.

Confirmed! I have the same problem and its rather severe as i am heavily
dependent on kmail. Pasting into the subject line or the address line
does not cause a hangup.

I can confirm this bug on x86-32 as of today (8/30/2007). I tried
pasting from the clipboard (klipper), as well as using the normal X11
method of simply highlighting text and then using the middle mouse
button to click. In all cases, kmail becomes unresponsive.

Same here on a Thinkpad T61. The size of the text doesn't matter, it
locks up the app whether it's running stand-alone or in kontact. I've
had a 100% fail rate trying to paste from my clipboard since that
update.

Same issue here. Kmail just dies. Copy/pasting via another applications
doesn't help.
Using "Paste as Quotation" works.
Don't know if this is a ubuntu bug only [1], but there's been some
patches added lately.
Perhaps bump up the importance level a notch?

+1. If I cut and paste text within kmail (running embedded in kontact),
it immediately crashes. AMD64. Dragging and dropping text works ok.

I have the same problem. Retrieving the text from klipper doesn't seem
to make a difference. Seems to be the same whether I middle-click,
ctrl+v or Edit->Paste from the menu. I don't know if this affects the
ctrl+c clipboard or just the highlight to clipboard.

Started happening after this morning's update. It did fix Basket's bug #133857
but compromised KMail.
Also happens even if KMail's running as a stand-alone.
