I think it is a mistake to require sign-in just to *check* for updates.
That might lead to you going to the trouble of signing in (or even
registering an Ubuntu One account), only to see that no updates are
available. Signing in to *install* updates would be much more palatable.

Also to point out that when it says 'Credentials not found' at that time
there is no way to know if my phone is on the very latest image or not,
because 'Credentials not found' never changes in that case.
This is a showstopper for the upgrade testing that we are doing.

Another one of the problems I guess is that you see 'Credentials not
found', which is a confusing message on it own, but not any indication
that there aren't any system updates—something the system does know at
this point.
