This is exactly what I need. However patch and rebuild from source is out of my
capacity.
Is it possible for you or someone upload a deb file for ubuntu 8.04? Or post
details on how to build / compile ?

Patch works well with pdftk-1.41 as of 2009-08-17.
Why not add a command-line option for this non-standards-compliant but
highly useful functionality?

Just to be clear, I don't mean to say that this change should not be
done, that pdftk is a perfect example of an implementation of the spec,
nor that Ubuntu seeks to enforce passwordIsOwner, but rather that I
believe this is an upstream decision, and that fixing it on a
distribution-by-distribution

been able to find a method to forward this patch upstream for
consideration, but found a reference
