I *have* an ubuntu-desktop (6.10) installed, and it is *not* fixed
there.
I had to manually install libgnome2-perl (it wasn't even enough to
install just libgnome2), so it seems there still are some depencies that
are not set up properly.

It is fixed. If you install an ubuntu-desktop you will get all packages
needed.
If you want to not only install dependencies, but also recommended
software that enhances your primary software, choose to install
recommends too.
