I think you're absolutely right. I tried it out by first closing the box
with the "CLOSE" button several times and it worked. After closing using
the 'X' close button, I get that same error. I just never associated the
error to this before.

I get the same error. When connected to a wireless access point, the
first time I right click on nmapplet to see the connection information,
it is displayed properly.
Succeeding attempts to view the connection information gives the error:

I changed the package to nmapplet because this is the program the gives
the error and the network connection is not affected in any way.
Nmapplet just doesn't show the connection information.
