qtcreator is outdate
Now we have passed feature freeze - Do we have to live with non-workning
out-of-the-box gdb functionality for 14.04 as well as 13.10 or is it
still possible to get QtC 3.0 into 14.04 ?

Yes, it's in progress. 3.0 is worked together with Qt 5.2. The current
status is that QtC 3.0 without Ubuntu plugin + Qt 5.2 is testable at ppa
:canonical-qt5-edgers/qt5-beta2
