Fixed with app-install-data-ubuntu 0.11.10.2. The new extract script is
now retrieving better quality icons when possible (eg for neverball).

In my opinion, g-a-i (or rather app-install-data) should use the same
algorithm used to determine the appropriate icon in the desktop files
when deciding which icon to include. This may represent a bug in the
app-install-data-ubuntu, but nothing needs be changed in neverball to
support this.

Well it's only noticable because gnome-app-install picks up the xpm and
displays it as neverball's icon before it's installed, should g-a-i use
pngs before xpms or something?

The xpm icon is required in order to show any icon in the Debian menu,
as shown when the menu-xdg package is installed, or when using alternate
menu methods. The xpm icon is farily small, and does not clutter the
namespace. Removal will not be considered, as it could lower the

Okay, apparently neverball ships a bad quality xpm in addition to the
good quality pngs, it shouldn't because it just gets in the way. The xpm
file should be removed from the packages (I think this is a ubuntu-
specific issue in the modified neverball packages?)
