brianM, thank you for testing the mainline kernels. So, now that it is
known that the regression occurred going from v3.10-rc2-saucy/ to
v3.10-rc3-saucy/, the next step is to fully commit bisect following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection#Commit_bisecting_upstream_kernel_versions
.

It fails at v3.10-rc3.
Note that in the failed kernel tests it boots to a low graphics option
screen (after the radeon error in my prev post) and then a terminal is
possible. In the original bug, based on the Saucy installer, no terminal is
available.

Brian, alright, so now that this has been narrowed down between 3.9.0-7.15 and
3.10.0-0.6, assuming this is reproducible in the mainline kernel, it would be
best to switch to it and continue the bisect. Utilizing

The problem is between 3.9.0-7 and 3.10.0-0. There is a boot to GUI in the
first with vesa-kalindi driver and only to a command line in the later. I
have attached dmesg output for both. The following lines in 3.10.0.0 appear
to be relevant

brianM, ok so we have a Ubuntu kernel regression going from 3.8.0-34 to
3.11.0-14. It would be best to test a 3.10.x, and 3.9.x release to
further narrow the regression down.

using just kernel updates I can't test the installer so testing would
