I'm seeing the same on Hardy Beta (as of 29th march 2008) on i945 - 64 bit.
My backtrace seems closer to the one in this defect than the ones in 115805
(gdb) where

Crashes often for me, too.
Intel i915GM chipset. Xorg uses the i810 driver.
Looks like it affects Intel graphics chipsets only.

Same trouble on MAXDATA ECO 4000 IW with chipset IntelĀ® 910 GML / ICH6-M
(Video i915)
Don't know if it can help but : last time without trouble with this
chipset was with Edgy (Feisty doesn't work at all) and compiz was
working just fine.
