xine -V shm just gives this:

Possibly, I also have vlc crashes (bug #123589) and crashes with
gmplayer which I couldn't yet make reproducable.
Unfortunately I have to use the proprietary ATi driver:
xorg-driver-fglrx is version 7.1.0-8.37.6+2.6.22.2-7.2
linux-restricted-modules-2.6.20-16-generic is version 2.6.20.5-16.29.
