I have the solution to this problem:
Change the Exec-line in the file .local/share/applications/chromium-
browser.desktop to
Exec=chromium-browser %u
(Add the %u)
After that every thing is working as it should.

In my python script with webbrowser.open(url) the URL won't open. From
the command-line it works:
chromium-browser http://launchpad.net
opens the webpage. gnome-www-browser and x-www-browser points to the
correct executable. So it's probably a bug in python.

I'm able to open links from Thunderbird 24 (there was a recent update)
correctly into Chromium 30. Just out of curiosity, can you run "update-
alternatives --get-selections | chromium-browser" in a Terminal window?
It should return gnome-www-browser and x-www-browser, and the paths
