At that time I upgraded to Mint16 by changing raring to saucy in the ppas, and
after some days heard that the sound had problem.
I requested help from the manufacturer of the computer, since it was under
guarantee, and he reported : No problem, it works under Windows.

No sound at all in Saucy
To manage notifications
Upgraded from 13.04 to 13.10 and lost my audio. I am using nvidia HDMI.
I tried the workaround referenced above with no luck. I tried a bunch
of different nvidia drivers with no luck. Everything in the GUIs looks
fine but no sound emits. This set up was working fine in 13.04. Not

The fix is the same as the fix for the sound issues in Skype:
sudo sed -i 's/^Exec=.*/Exec=env PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=30 audacity %U/'

BTW, not sure if I should open a new issue here, but, pulseaudio input
is not working for me in Mumble and Skype. Even though I can see the
audio meters moving in pavucontrol, I can't get any sound from my mic in
any of those programs. It works fine in Audacity, though.
