I can say that 3.8.0.26.25 works, installed via the linux-generic-lts-
raring package.
The quantal kernel 3.5.0.36.42 doesn't (with different kind of behavior:
artifacts instead of black screen).
(I have not tested in-between versions nor 3.10)

The behaviour does not seem to be consistent. Sometimes a black screen
appears during boot but sometimes there is a graphical KMS output but
the machine hangs anyway.
In the latter case the last lines before it hangs (with a blinking
cursor) are:
vesafb: mode is 1024x768x32, linelength=4096, page
I don't know what that apport-collect command sends and I don't want to
run it at the moment.
I tested the older kernels and the issue apperead with linux-image-3.2.0-48.
The previous version 3.2.0-45 works.
