The timing of the resolution matches that of when the new kernel
reverting the SATA change came (and you are running the new kernel).

the sudden resolution of this problem after updates strongly implies a
duplicate of Bug #116996 .

Symptoms are not repeating now.
In the meantime, I have done some updates but not sure if that has changed
things. I haven't changed any configuration.
