After some digging I noticed that the S/PDIF output was simply muted by
ALSA. I unmuted it in alsamixer and now it works. I _did_ try to do
this before submitting a bug report, but for some reason, I couldn't get
it to work.

I tested the 3.9.0-030900rc8-generic #201304211835 kernel and the SPDIF
output didn't work with that, either. Analog output still works.
