Just an endnote to this. Asus released the 208 BIOS update a few days
after I emailed them which fixes this issue. The only odd thing though
is that I manually need to load the acpi-cpufreq module. Shouldn't this
be done automatically?

Ok thanks, although rather worrying :/
This is probably out of the scope of this bug slightly but how exactly
would I word a letter to Asus about this? I can't think of a way that
isn't going to sound rather "some guy in some place said it's broken".

Ok, then the errors reported clearly show that the BIOS is not setup
properly. This module definitely works (it's being used on like 6
systems here with no problems).
I'd contact your hw vendor for more information about this.

Just tried with 2.6.20 and it's exactly the same. Same "No such device"
and same ACPI exception errors in dmesg.

Well, I got some warnings from iasl, but nothing that looked terribly
related.
Can you tell me if freq scaling worked in some older kernel? Perhaps
2.6.20 or 2.6.21?

Looks an awful lot like a bug in the BIOS. Please run this command:
sudo cat /proc/acpi/dsdt > dsdt
Attach this file to the bug report via the web interface, and in the
meantime, could you also check if there is a BIOS update for your
system?
