Also had same problem using netrunner distribution.
Have now managed to run updates again and picked up ppa3 updates and all
back to normal.

I got the krand files from a desktop still running KDE 4.10.1:
root@running4.10.1# locate -i krand | xargs tar cvfz krand.tar.gz
And unpacked on the other running 4.10.2 and dual display came back
again:
root@running4.10.2 # tar xvfz krand.tar.gz /

Same here. For me
xrandr --output LVDS1 --auto --output VGA1 --auto --primary --below LVDS1
works as workaround for dual screen.
