No theme problem, i never changed it.
Yes Desktop Effects was enabled in Synaptic.
Now i install the alternate vierson.

Thanks for reporting the issue. Looks like a theme problem to me. Could you set
the theme to Ubuntu default human theme.
Set the ownership of the home folder[with contents] to unicolored, before doing
anything !
( For this use the command sudo chown -R unicolored /home/unicolored
