With 3.11.0-031100rc7-generic my system becomes much more stable as with
any of the kernel versions before (I am testing every new kernel version
since February this year).

Lately, I have been having trouble booting at all. I found out that if
I unplug the laptop and then boot, usually (ha, not always) it will
boot. Then I have to promptly run a ripper to keep the machine going
(and now this doesn't always work).
I noticed that when it does not boot, the hard drive
I was using precise but with the 2.6 kernel. Not long, only until a
freeze occurred.

Same symptom, high load prevents freezes. Or at least used to for me.

I can confirm the bug with kernel 3.5.0-34-generic (on Kubuntu 12.04
LTS). I don't think it is a hardware issue.
I'm not sure if this helps, but high CPU loads prevent the system
freezes.

Thanks, I've updated the tags.
I really hope this is a bug that can be fixed but I now have a very
strong suspicion that this is a hardware issue. Hopefully I'll be
proven wrong :D
