What I'm trying to do is to set up the internal panel of my laptop as
the default (primary) display at its native 1280 by 800 (widescreen) and
the external display connector to 1024 by 768, the native resolution of

just an observation of mine:
the problem with missing widescreen resolutions might be solved by
ticking "widescreen" in the window where you select your display
model(eg generic panel)... Ticking this box makes the widescreen
resolutions show up...

It still doesn't work with the latest updates!
xorg.conf says 1440x1440 which is totally wrong.
xrandr reports 1152x864 as the highest supported resolution so does
displayconfig-gtk.
If I select 'LCD Panel 1440x900' in displayconfig-gtk 1024x768 is the highest
possible resolution to choose...
I have the same problem with displayconfig-gtk.
This problem still exists here (will try the updates from today in a few

Are the changes to the monitor definitions going to be applied to
displayconfig-gtk as well, or just kde-guidance? I'm seeing the same
problem in Gnome; 1440x900 isn't listed in the available modes for the
generic 1440x900 LCD model provided. Alternatively, how can I define my
own monitor models?

This should be fixed with the next kde-guidance release. It seems that
the generic monitor definitions contained some mistakes. Furthermore
displayconfig-gtk does not allow to select a resolution that is not
supported by the currently attached screen.

Same problem here on a a MacBook.
1st display: 1280x800, work perfectly with the 'intel' driver.

If I try to "activate" it with displayconfig-gtk, the first screen is
