I had the same problem on Gusty: I had some crash reports. I solve the problem
by using Sun Java.
However it seems to have a lot of problem with eclipse from the repo:

what's happening with this bug? i've spent hours trying to figure out
what the problem is, but no luck. is there any known fix for it? i'm
using Ubuntu 7.04, Eclipse 3.2.2 and JRE 6.

same here, I've tried both sun's jdk and the eclipse that comes from the
repos.. it crashes when we open eclipse
