Wine shouldn't be able to freeze the system, it's a user-level process.

i checked the version better and it looks like 0.9.36. i was trying to
install Ocean, a program that worked fine under Freespire 1 and one of
the early Freespire Alpha versions, i think it was 0.49. In fact it
worked better under 0.49 than under FS 1, it was faster, the screen was
more complete a
