I confirm this bug too on Ubuntu 7.04
Steps to reproduce:
1) double click the file (attached crash.ppt for example)
2) press F5 to start the slideshow
3) press ESC to stop the slideshow
4) press Alt+F4 to close OOo Impress
Then OOo crashes and starts recovery process which ended in starting

ya exactly.
"Diaporama it" would mean (probably a bad translation from my French
version sry) that you need to press "F5" the exit "F5" mode then close
openoffice. If you don't go in "F5" mode, you wont be able to reproduce
the bug.
Yes it is very annoying, but absolutely not critical !

I don't know what "diaporama it" means, but openoffice 2.2 crashes for
me when I try to close a *.ppt file. It opens writer on my machine as
well. Not a huge bug...just an annoyance really.

BTW, after rebuild is done, Writer is opened insteed of Impress...
that's very wreid bug.
