I own same laptop.
Touchpad does not work until "Touchpad on/off" key pressed (fn+F7).
Videoadapter is working in VESA mode since neither opensource nor
catalyst driver support this chipset (just checked 13.1 catalyst bundle
with no luck).
That's for Debian, but I believe it's same in Ubuntu.

the new software. the laptop was too loud for me so I send it back
to the shop.

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.8 kernel[0] (Not a kernel in the daily directory) and install both
the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.
If this bug is fixed in the ma
file a new bug about the display driver, you didn't actually mention any
misbehaviour and the logfiles look fine.
