it`s a benq joybook S52.
the hdparm output above was with a cd-r in the drive.
with a dvd i get:
/dev/cdrom:
Timing cached reads: 1246 MB in 2.00 seconds = 623.10 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads:8 MB in 3.54 seconds = 2.26 MB/sec
my / partition gives me:
sudo hdparm -tT /dev/sda5
