issue still exist in the Hardy Heron 8.04 LTS release? If so, the

Yes, this is onboard audio controller that comes with intel i855
chipset. The computer is a ThinkPad X32 laptop. You can use "lspci -v"
to list your PCI device information.

1) I tried oss capture with no difference to the results.

Please do not file a bug report containing three different issues. Open
three different bug reports.
1) Use OSS capture.
2) See above.
3) Make sure the correct card is selected by using asoundconf(1)
set-default-card.
None of these options are particularly user-friendly at the moment,
which is b
