Crash in g_variant_valist_get_leaf when highlighted

So we should really pass as many arguments into g_variant_get as the
format string dictates.
Strangely enough, this crash never happened on my system, even though I
use xchat-gnome daily (I'm on x86_64 though). The attached branch most
likely fixes the issue.
