Nautilus 3.6 is so much faster. This issue must be resolved for all
Ubuntu 12.10 users. Because file browsing is an essential part of the OS
interface, this should be attributed a very high priority.

The issue was resolved after i upgraded to Nautilus 3.6. See
instructions to install Nautilus 3.6 here: http://ubuntuguide.net

Workaround: I installed the PCmanFM package :
sudo apt-get install pcmanfm
pcmanfm
this is a good alternative as Nautilus and he is very fast.

I have got te same experience. When i open nautilus with sudo its fast.
but with a normal or admin user is is slow(even with a ssd).

I have this same problem. This was a fresh install if the 32bit desktop
on an atom chip.
I also see this message in the .xsession-errors file:
Nautilus-Share-Message: Called "net usershare info" but it failed: 'net
usershare' returned error 255: net usershare: cannot open usershare directory
