Greg Vallande, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from

Recently tested with the "linux-
image-3.8.0-030800rc5-generic_3.8.0-030800rc5.201301251535_amd64" and
the device lists as "dummy output" as the only audio device. The bug
still exists.

Do the HDMI controls return if you boot a prior kernel? This may be a
bug in gnome-control-center versus the kernel.
