* Install the alias files in their proper place /etc/X11/fonts/misc.

Here is one workaround, though it may be an extremely wrong way to do
it:
sudo sh -c "cat /etc/X11/fonts/X11R7/misc/xfonts-terminus.alias >>
/usr/share/fonts/X11/misc/fonts.alias"
xset fp rehash

I can't use these either. After installation:
$ xterm -fn terminus-14
xterm: unable to open font "terminus-14", trying "fixed"
They do work in gnome-terminal, however.
