@Peter Matulis
Your workaround doesn't work on Lubuntu 11.10
Entries from /usr/share/thumbnailers seem to have no effect on pcmanfm as I
also have evince.thumbnailer entry there but no thumbnails for pdfs are
generated.
$ apt-cache policy pcmanfm ffmpegthumbnailer
ffmpegthumbnailer:
Installed
The workaround:
sudo apt-get install ffmpegthumbnailer
Create /usr/share/thumbnailers/totem.thumbnailer with contents:
===
[Thumbnailer Entry]
TryExec=/usr/bin/ffmpegthumbnailer
Exec=/usr/bin/ffmpegthumbnailer -s %s -i %i -o %o -c png -f
MimeType=application/mxf;application/ogg;application/ram;a
This is not a wishlist, is a bug, it is a regression, is about ALL kind
of videos with the right codecs installed. there is no video thumbnail
generation. I don't know if nautilus if the problem or totem-video-
thumbnailer.

this is indeed a wishlist item even though the preferences just say
"thumbnails." I note images and pdfs work fine, but e.g. OpenDocuments
and indeed .MOVs aren't the only video files that are problematic. .OGV
and .MP4 failed
