I neglected to mention that during my swaps back forth in BIOS drive
ordering, none of these problems ever occurred when I booted from the
same drive that Windows was on, even when I booted from on that drive,
though they always occurred when I booted from the other (until I

I can confirm this problem, explain the root cause, and confirm the fix.
Steps to reproduce problem:
1. Obtain a Windows 7 install (I used Windows 7 Professional)
2. Install a second drive with higher boot priority in the BIOS
3. Install Ubuntu (I tested with 12.04.1 and 12.10) on the second drive
The attachment "os-prober_windows_drivemap.patch" of this bug report has
been identified as being a patch. The ubuntu-reviewers team has been
subscribed to the bug report so that they can review the patch. In the
