It is fixed in the upstream master build. I will try and check whether it has
made it into a 3.6 build.
You could check 3.6.2 RC1 build if you are able

I see the same thing but have noticed that it is related to time: try
making very fast selections with the mouse and it works; take normal
time and the selection underway drops.
Another work around if you want to select a whole word or string of
whole words: double click first word and hold button
The last libreoffice update (today 13 sep) does not solve the problem.
