@David: Do you have any idea why the symbolic link was missing? By
default the resolvconf package creates the symbolic link on
installation.

That was exactly the problem. I was also missing the symbolic link.
Running "dpkg-reconfigure resolvconf" and "restart network-manager"
worked for me. Thanks for the help.

by a symbolic link. Do you have any idea why this didn't happen in your

Run "dpkg-reconfigure resolvconf" and agree to create the needed
symbolic link at /etc/resolv.conf to the dynamically generated
resolv.conf file. Then reboot.
