This looks like the same issue as bug 406466, but now confirmed as present in Precise. In bug 406466, the kernel team asks that we file a new bug if confirmed in a supported release, so this might as well be that new bug. Marking as Invalid in samba as this is a kernel cifs/smbfs module issue, and

I tried the "noserverino" workaround now and it worked. Since without knowing that workaround, severe dataloss or more unlikely malicious data hiding could occur on those machines, I would mandate to make that option more prominent, e.g. to force mounts to have one of "noserverino" or "serverino",
