PK 0.8.x has been removed from the Saucy queue again...
So this is "Fix Committed" again :-(
I will now only close this bug again if some release from the 0.8 series is
available in the repos, or leave it up to the Ubuntu people to close this bug.

Ubuntu did not include PackageKit 0.8.x, but only this series contains my patch
to use pkttyagent.
You can try the packages from Debian Experimental (but they might not work on
Ubuntu) or wait for the next Ubuntu.

No, I'm no ArchLinux developer and I haven't made changes on the alpm backend.
But if a backend exists, PackageKit will work with it.
There exists a community-maintained PackageKit package, which is pretty
up-to-date:

You can try this
sure.
Ps: I've noticed that the same command is not supported on ArchLinux
(pacman, alpm) are you the right person to ask about?

No, they're the same. My current patch used pkttyagent directly (was lots of
new code!), but using the PolKit API is much better.
I'll change the code, so we will have this feature working in PackageKit >=
0.8.3.
Thanks!

Hi!
I found a solution for this, but it will require some bigger changes in PK.
I'll implement everything for the upcoming 0.8.1 release, which might become
available in Quantal, as soon as it is ready.
Thanks for reporting this bug and bringing the issue up again!

Okay, looks like someone implemented terminal support some time ago -

I'm thinking about simply asking a password like sudo.
I've read that packagekit uses policykit, so why pkcon, that is a
terminal application, require a KDE or GNOME authentication window?

I don't think so. Would be quite complex since a terminal doesn't
support multiple windows.

Yes, this is the whole problem. but maybe we can at least show a

This is not supported because there isn't any policykit agent in the
terminal session available. You could adjust the privileges in the
policykit configuration to all

Okay, I need to investigate that. In the meantime, just execute pkcon
with sudo, then you should get authorization ;-)
