Using Ubuntu 21.04 (Hirsute) that starts in Wayland, by default.
Thunderbird version: 78.11.0 with "gnome-support" package.
Same problem in safe mode.
Description:
By default in this context, TB is a Wayland task.
When opening a compose windows (or reply or transfer), sending
It not linked to wxmaxima, but due to maxima itself.
If you launch maxima from terminal, you will have exactly the same error
message.

I do totally agree with Tim comment.
The startdesktop is an essential feature of libreoffice suite. For example, it
is the best user-friendly interface to choose a template or to open a recent
document, using the big preview window.
If it is placed in libreoffice-common or libeoffice meta package
