Correction, I just got a flicker, don't know why exactly what is
triggering it, but it's not often.

I confirm the patch Ville-syrjala-e created works well.
My setup is a DELL XPS 13 9380 with Xubuntu 19.04.
It was working well for a couple of weeks and then this morning when
I've powered on is started flickering.
This is really weird because I didn't upgrade or changed anything.

Confirmed on karmic daily liveCD from 09/09/09 with a nvidia 9400M graphic card
(regular card, not hybrid).
NV doesn't support this card, but for some reason the vesa fallback does not
work; the user is sent to a text only login prompt.

X fails to start as the video card is not recognized and I end up on a tty
