Sorry I have been too busy to update this earlier. Turns out my
notebook had a faulty hard disk causing it to create massive wait. This
was probably responsible for this issue among others., because I can't
reproduce it since the HDD was replaced. Just wanted to let you know.

This is occuring also on my Feisty installation, no wonder my laptop has
been running like the proverbial mutt. I followed the above

and the debug output... just wouldn't give any details when I opened the
new folder about what functions were being called.. .if you can give any
pointers I might be able to get a better debug. strace gave me nothing
also.

yes it is nautilus using up most of the CPU%; see attached screenshot.
I attempted to debug, but there appeared to be no useful output. This
is also attached.

I note that I have 1:2.18.1-0ubuntu1 version of nautilus installed
although this page indicates a newer version available, but no newer
version seems to be available in synaptic.
