(which I came across for entirely unrelated reasons) is that kernel
framebuffering must be enabled in the grub menu.lst. Using vga=792
(1024x768x32) results in an X session that can see the 1024x768 & lower

Although this is still ongoing in Ubuntu with Hardy (fresh install or

On a Toshiba Tecra M9, with a Quadro NVS 130M video card, the nv driver
is just shy of useless. Using either Gutsy or the Hardy Alpha 6 live
cd, the nv driver recognizes the card but provides a resolution of
738x414 (rather than the native 1280x800)
This problem is reproducible on multiple computers with Gutsy and
sunbird (either 0.5 or 0.7): some themes cause the program to crash with
a traceback very similar to above (e.g., Redmond), while others (Human,
Clearlooks, Raleigh) allow the program to work fine. The crash always
occurs upon spawn
