got it fixed now. was a problem in the .openoffice.org2 folder in home.
I uninstalled open office, deleted that folder and reinstalled open
office and now it works.

have not added any extensions that didn't come through Umbuntoo and
cannot open documents, account settings are coming up with heaps of xml
parsing errors and preferences will not open at all. this below is what
comes up when i try to find the version which should be the latest.
