I had to manually remove the popfile.pid in /var/run/popfile to be be able to
reinstall. (Hardy using 1.0.0-0ubuntu2)
reinstall didn't solve my problem though so looking for solutions elsewhere /
waiting for Intrepid release / popfile backport

Was getting segmentation fault everytime I hit the delete key
cured by:
Create new profile by starting thunderbird with the P option
>thunderbird -P
copy mail folders from old profile folder (~/.mozilla-
thunderbird/profile/mail) to the new profile, delete the old profile
(thunderbird -P again)

I think to do with xserver-xgl,
Looking through my own logs I decided to remove xserver xgl, and the problem
has gone away. Had to remove Option AIGLX OFF from xorg.conf to keep Compiz
working.
I think instaling XGL and aidding the AIGLX option to xorg.conf was a
common workaround to get compiz
switching to libsdl-esd as advised here cured this for me

Got this in everything, MPlayer Exaile Amarok. It appears that the lower the
bitrate the worse this effect is (a 128k stream / MP3 is unbearable were as a
320k the crackle is hardly noticeable)
