i have done further tests with regard to this and i have established
that it is the plugin zeitgeist that is causing the crashing. the way i
tested this was i disabled all plugins and tested it. then reactivated
each plugin one by one.
terminal output when i ran rhythmbox from terminal.

just done some more testing to find it crashes for me. it is when the
song end and rhythmbox tries to goto the next track. it turns darks and
then crashes and closes. if you click next (or use the next button on
remote) before the track ends it goes to the next track.

i am only testing it on libreoffice because it is default office suite

i think it might be the patch to fix invisible windows and dead zones.
since this patch was reintroduced i haven't had the invisible windows or

i raised this bug before ubuntu changed to libreoffice which doesn't

to reproduce the bug it was as simple as open documents folder and then
double spreadsheet file.
since i am now using libreoffice and not openoffice i am unable to test
openoffice or reproduce.

i have installed the lirc package and selected the windows media center remotes
(all) option and then rebooted to activate the lirc kernel module and lirc
didn't work.
when i tried to start it manually gets message.

i have just tested this again to see how it behaves now.
when the song changes and notification is displayed while scrolling
through the menus it no longer crashes x server.
but it still happens when you are scrolling the menu and someone sends
to a IM.

i can confirm that if you mount the dvd video without playing it. the
eject button on the drive works but it leaves it mounted so when you
insert another disk it doesn't work until you have unmounted the first
disk.

i have done abit more testing with regard to this problem.

this sounds more like bug #397734 (the eject button on drive doesn't
work when mounted)
when i play a dvd-video it mounts and plays ok now with this new
libbrasero-media0 2.28.1. i cant eject using the drive button but can
unmount/eject using nautilus, then drive button works again until
i use to have problem with software centre and update manager. crashing and
getting bug report symbol all the time.
i installed rsyslog and ubuntu-minimal and the problems have been solved.
do you have these packages installed.

i can confirm that if you uninstall libbrasero-media0 2.28 or downgrade this
package to 2.27.92 then dvd playback works again.
also fixes another problem that i had whereby if you unmount and eject a disk
and close the draw you where unable to reopen the dvd drawer to insert another

this is still not fixed out of 4 dvd's i tried only 2 worked.
1 stops after about 15mins
1 doesn't play at all.

i eject a dvd and take it out, and close the draw i cant reopen the draw until
i either restart (fully) or restart x server.
when i goto places computer and then right the cd/dvd drive and click eject

installed the acpitool and typed the above acpitool -f and got response fan :
off.
i tried the next command acpitool -F 1 got message.
forcing the fan of/off is ony supported on toshiba laptops.
no toshiba acpi extensions were found .
