Basically on Lenovo Y50-70 after installing Ubuntu 17.10, many users
reported a corrupted BIOS.
It's not possible to save new settings in BIOS anymore and after
rebooting, the system starts with the old settings.

RAM , 2,8GB Swap on Dell Inspiron 3542 laptop . I boot on 1.2GB of RAM

found out in the Ubuntu forums that the following command forces a pci
rescan and if a card is inside already then it is recognised. Tested
only with an SD card.
