I have this issue despite a clean install. Sometimes, when a new version
of the kernel is installed, the touchpad works. However, after a restart
it stops working.

This seems to still be an issue. Here's what I'm getting using the

Just FYI, there is an updated bios for this hardware (A06) posted on

I don't believe I have unity8-desktop-session-mir installed. I'll have
to double check this, but the laptop mentioned above had a largely new
installation that was not setup by myself.

I believe I did update lightdm. I'll double check and get those logs. Is
a restart required post installing and setting up the Unity8-lxc? If so,
that should probably added here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Unity8inLXC

Thanks of the instructions! I don't mind giving it a go myself. I have
raring on an older machine, so that might be an interesting test case.
In terms of feedback, should I use this ticket to give any, or is there
a different preferred avenue for it?

That is indeed the issue, and seeing as I'm not a kernel dev myself, I'm
not sure what would be involved in patching the ubuntu kernel for that
purpose. however, seeing as how very few people have a laptop that old,
and given that I no longer have the hardware, this is propbably not a
priority.

quick question: frm what I understand, this overlay brings up static
text. Wouldn't it be prudent to have it read the current shortcuts from
the current cofiguration? IMO It would be better for those using gconf
to tweak or future customization additions to unity. Just my 2 cents.

I really don't think this isssue is fixed. Ubuntu one for me still goes
into "disconnect" mode and does not recover or connect till I restart.
In fact, this tends to take place frequently after I go into standby for
