Tried both kernels. couldn't load 3.2 (I think due to graphic card driver error

I installed Ubuntu 8.10 on my ThinkPad T60 Type: 1951-AG6.
Problem:
Brightness applet shows that I am at 100% brightness but I still one step
behind.
